Description
Located in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Virunga National Park stretches over 7,800 square kilometers. As Africa's oldest national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Virunga is incredibly diverse in terms of its flora and fauna. It has habitats ranging from swamps and steppes to snowfields, lava plains, savannas, and the glaciated peaks of the Rwenzori mountains. It is especially known for its mountain gorillas and two active volcanoes.
